Is your garage still housing boxes from last year’s move or harboring junk you hope to get rid of? It isn’t uncommon for most people’s garages to become the storage shed they always wanted. With a little help, you can lift things off the floor onto shelves and in cabinets and create a new space.. Here are a few ideas of how your newly acquired space can be used:

Protected Parking Space- Now that your garage is organized, you can fit your car in the garage for safe keeping. Parking in the garage protects your car from damage caused by storms, vandalism, theft and outdoor activities.

Rental Space- Convert your garage into a room. While this idea doesn’t come easy, it would provide another space for someone to stay temporarily or permanently. Rent the space to a family member, family friend or potential tenant.

Home Theatre- Every family has dreamt of having their own home theatre, but sacrificing an entire room for entertainment is difficult if you have limited space. The garage provides the perfect place to watch movies and play games during all seasons of the year. There are easy solutions for soundproofing your garage, so you don’t have to worry about the noise.

Business- The extra space can be used for your startup or small business. Some of the most famous businesses today started in a garage including Amazon, Apple and Disney. Some ideas of potential businesses are car detailing, pet grooming, photography, personal training, t-shirt designing, etc.

Multi-purpose room- Your garage can become a space that houses multiple rooms. You can dedicate one side of the room for laundry, another for health and fitness, another dedicated to art and school projects . You can customize each corner of the room to meet your needs. Use the garage to create rooms you don’t have space for in the house.

Recreation Game Room- Some games can take up a lot of space. The garage provides a place to put bigger game that require more space like Ping-Pong, billiards, air hockey and foosball. You can also add floor games, like shuffleboard and hopscotch.

Bar- Turn the garage into the man cave your husband has always wanted. The garage can be converted into a bar for the guys in your life to blow off some steam and enjoy watching TV. You can add tables to host events for poker, blackjack and texas hold ‘em.

While the idea of turning your garage into the room or rooms you want is exciting, it comes with a price. Remember that whatever you choose to occupy your space with sacrifices space for something else. Carefully plan, prepare and weigh your options to find the best fit for your family and unoccupied garage space.
