If your car was a room in your house, how would it compare to the rest of the rooms in your house in regards to being clean and organized? For most people, cleaning and organizing your car never seems to be a priority. It always seems to be something you think of when it is too late, and you are giving someone a ride. Cleaning and organizing your car doesn’t have to be hard or very time consuming. There are several things that you can do to help you with this.
Clean Up

The first thing that you are going to want to do is clean up the mess that currently exists in your car. To do this you are going to need a bag for all the trash, a bag for the stuff that doesn’t belong in the car, and a bag for the things that you want to keep in your car. Taking everything out including the things that you are going to keep in the car allows for an easier clean. Don’t forget about the trunk space.

Seats and Floor

Typically, when cleaning the seats and the floor, a vacuum will do the job. If you have stains in the carpet floor, you might need to break out some carpet cleaner and a brush. To get rid of the stains, first vacuum up all the loose dirt and crumbs, then apply carpet cleaner and scrub the stain with the brush, and finish by vacuuming up one last time after the carpet cleaner has dried.

Windows and Dashboard

Cleaning your car wouldn’t be complete without cleaning the windows or the dashboard. Over time the windows pick up streaks and fingerprints, and the dash gets covered in dust. To avoid streaks when cleaning the windows, use window cleaner and apply sparingly. Cleaning the windows is best saved for last. Any all-purpose cleaner works great for cleaning the dashboard. It also works great for cleaning the cup holders, doors, and even the door jams.

Organize Your Glove Box

After you are done cleaning up, it’s time to organize your car. Your glove box is a good place to start because it contains a lot of very important information. If you are like me, your glove box is mess of important and unimportant papers, leftover napkins from fast food stops, and old CD's that haven’t been listened to in years. Get rid of what you don’t need, and for everything else, a plastic file folder with labels works great. Giving everything a place is key to staying organized.

Organizing Your Trunk

When organizing your trunk, remember that the main purpose for your trunk it for transporting temporary items. That being said, we should only keep items we really need or are for emergencies in the trunk. Just like the glove box, if you are going to leave things in your trunk, it needs a place. Small organizational bins or bags work great for organizing the things you leave in your trunk.

Keeping Your Car Clean and Organized

Cleaning and organizing your car is a process. Just like cleaning anything, it is much easier if we do it more frequently. Create a habit of never leaving things in the car that does not belong. Keeping the car trash-free will also make the organization process easier to maintain.. An easy way to keep the car trash-free is to clean up trash every time you stop to fill up for gas. With just a little bit of time and effort, we can be proud of the way that our car looks.
