Depending on your application, if you’ve been searching for casters, you’ve probably come across two fairly common types of casters; polyurethane casters and neoprene rubber casters. A lot of consumers have therefore come to the same basic question;

Which will be better for my application; polyurethane casters or neoprene rubber?

If you’ve arrived at the same question, you’ve come to the right place; CoolYeah Garage Organization can help you select a caster that will fit your application perfectly. We not only have a dominant presence in the caster marketplace, we also have an extensive selection of casters and garage organization products for you to pick from and based on our experience, we’ve seen five factors that are essential to making good buying decisions.

1. Load Capacity

Anyone familiar with moving a heavy object knows that the means in which the object is moved is essential to reducing stress on our bodies; ensuring that we have the proper equipment for the proper load is crucial. As an example, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to use a two door sedan to haul a trailer full of landscaping rocks; the strain on the motor and the suspension would likely ruin the car.

This concept holds true for casters; polyurethane casters will often handle heavier loads than rubber casters because of how they are manufactured; polyurethane is a harder material than rubber neoprene so it is more resistant to cracking and splitting

At CoolYeah Garage Organization, our 2" stem casters have a 300 pound weight capacity whereas our 2" Swivel Caster Wheels are limited to a 220 pound weight capacity; a very noticeable difference between the two different types.

2. Stability

There are times in our lives when stability is of the utmost importance; when we’re on our way to work with a piping hot cup of coffee in our hands, we have a profound appreciation for the concept of stability.

Using that example, if automotive wheels were constructed from steel or wood, we probably wouldn’t even consider taking coffee into our cars. Instead, most automotive tires are constructed of some sort of rubber – and for good reason. Rubber offers a bit of cushion that steel and wood simply cannot offer; it’s more pliable so loads carried on neoprene rubber caster wheels are typically more stable.

Based on the stability requirements of the load to be moved, CoolYeah Garage Organization can help you select a caster wheel that will work for you and your needs. Our skilled and experienced customer service representatives can help you select a caster based on the stability requirements. Give us a call and let us know what you’re working on!

3. Durability

No matter what we’re buying, we all think about durability at some point during the buying process. As an example, we’ve all dropped a cell phone and picked it up only to realize that the screen is cracked; most cell phone screens cannot handle even the slightest impacts. It seems like they’d crack even if they had a parachute and a trampoline to break the fall.

From our furniture and appliances to our cars, trucks, and lawn equipment, we all want to buy a durable product. For some applications, durability is important for safety as well; there’s a reason engine blocks aren’t constructed from machined wood; we’d struggle to log a single mile on the odometer without a massive fire erupting from the engine compartment.

For caster wheels, polyurethane casters will almost always exceed the useful life of neoprene rubber casters. One of the key factors in durability is the manner in which the casters are produced. Polyurethane casters will often resist oil and grease where neoprene rubber casters tend to be more

absorbent. At CoolYeah Garage Organization, we offer a one year quality warranty to ensure our clientele receive unparalleled service and durability – so you won’t need a parachute and trampoline with our products.

4. Floor conditions

There’s a number of things that can go wrong when we’re trying to move a heavy load across a floor on caster wheels no matter what their made of; dirt and debris can get caught in the bearings, threads and wires can get bound in the wheels, and when objects are stuck between the caster wheels and the floor and the load is dragged, the floors can be damaged as well.

Neoprene rubber casters can mark floors in a way that’s difficult to remove particularly if they aRe black. However, some rubber casters are produced in a grey color; these variations typically will not leave marks on the floor. Still, polyurethane is preferred in applications where protecting the floor is a concern; they do allow the transference of color commonly seen with rubber caster wheels.

If caster selection is not negotiable due to weight restrictions, CoolYeah also has flooring options that can help make the space more workable. We offer Diamond Nitro Garage Tiles that are manufactured out of impact resistant plastic. Plastic flooring is durable and easy to clean, and resistant to marking and marring.

Yet another fantastic option from CoolYeah Garage Organization, a garage door flood barrier threshold kit can be easily installed beneath your garage door to keep dirt and debris from blowing in under the garage door. These are both options that make the decision between polyurethane caster wheels and neoprene rubber caster wheels far easier to make than it might have been.

5. Ease of Use

If you’ve ever tried to maneuver a tool chest through a garage, you know how important maneuverability can be. The load to be moved is several hundred pounds and the caster wheels are rubber, they will naturally move with more friction than the polyurethane caster wheels.

Polyurethane caster wheels are harder and the load to be moved will roll therefore roll easier on harder floors than loads on neoprene rubber caster wheels. As an example, the 5" Swivel Caster - Gray Soft Rubber Wheel from CoolYeah Garage Organization is a great option but it will not roll quite easy as our 5" Swivel Caster - Polyurethane On Aluminum Wheel.

When it comes to caster wheels, CoolYeah Garage Organization not only has the selection to meet the needs of clientele and their projects, we also have the experience and skillset to help our valued clientele select a set of casters that will work – at a prices that work.
